Your Identity

Updated: Jan 25, 2023

When you think of your identity what do you associate it with? Do you think of your family tree, perhaps your job title, religious affiliation, male, female or even a parent? First and foremost our identity is in Christ and by keeping this truth front and center allows us to become the person God created us to be.

We quickly realize how each person is our brother and sister, it removes our judgments of others that are not like us and allows us to love each other unconditionally just as Jesus loves us.

Galatians 3:26-29 You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

It seems when we face a national crisis or natural disasters that is when you see our true identity come alive. You begin to see compassion & empathy at work, people step up to help each other regardless of race, religion or backgrounds, we are less concerned with where you come from and more concerned with your safety & helping you get through devastating times.

This is the America I like to see, not that I wish for us to keep experiencing tragedies, but it seems the tragedies bring out the best in us! Why is that?

2 Thessalonians 3:13

And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right.

Our challenge is to live from this level of compassion consistently not just when tragedy strikes.

Proverbs 19:17 He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward him for what he has done.

Can you think of a time when you helped someone in need? How did it make you feel? Jesus was a great example of what it means to be a service to others. Friends I hope you are encouraged to step out of your comfort zone and help someone who is struggling. Let's be the living example Jesus taught us to be!

Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
