Why God?

Updated: Jan 25, 2023

Are you in a season that has caused you to ask, "Why God?"

This question reminds me of my boys when they were young and how often they would ask the question "why?" It also reminds me of how many times my answer turned into "because I said so" as they got older. Hmmm....sound familiar? Maybe you can relate in similar ways.

This sounds a lot like us though, doesn't it? Even as adults, how many times have we questioned God's answers? Especially when we don't like the answer we're given. We find ourselves becoming like our own children and we demand another answer. We have endless questions for Him, just like our children do for us.

Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Perhaps in this moment you find yourself questioning why a relationship did not work out, or why your job ended the way it did, you may even question the death of a loved one or even a dear friend.

I know I have certainly questioned why our friend Dave died recently because he was always pursuing opportunities to talk about God and trying to bring people to church. My thought is "he could have brought so many more people to church if he was still here" so why did he die now? But the Bible tells us in Job 14:5 "Man's days are determined; you have decreed the number of his months and have set limits he cannot exceed." Friends, our days are numbered on this earth, it's important to make each day count, just as Dave did because we never know when it will be our last.

So how do we get to a point in our lives where we no longer question our circumstances, but instead accept them as they are? For me, it's about keeping my focus on God's light as I mentioned yesterday, but it's also knowing with each passing day I am one day closer to seeing my son, my parents and the rest of my family & friends.

I've tried to make it my mission to no longer ask why God, but instead to notice when God is stretching me spiritually and to use the difficult and painful experiences that I've endured to encourage others on their journey, because God instructs to help others. Galatians 6:2 "Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ."

Friends, I want to encourage you to remember Isaiah 41:10 because even though you may not be able to see how you could possibly help another person right now that is okay, because one day down the road you'll get there, just be patient with your journey and allow God to strengthen you in this moment and the next and so on, visualize His presence with you.

If you are someone who has been able to move beyond your pain than God has you in a position to pay it forward. Think of all the souls that have helped you on your journey, find a way to apply those gifts in the lives around you.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.

There is a great song out called "Why God?" By Austin French I hope you'll take a moment to listen to it.

As the song says: "I need to know when it hurts this bad. That You hold my heart when it breaks. And I'm not alone in this place. That's why God, I need You Why God, I run to Your arms. Over and over again. It's, why God, I cling to Your love. And hold on for dear life. And I find, You are right by my side. Always right by my side. Even here in the why... God."

Never forget God DOES care about you and your situation. Run into His arms friends!

1 Peter 5:7
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
