Who Am I?
Updated: Jan 25, 2023
If you were asked this question how would you answer it?
Most people would begin with I'm a Daughter/Son, Sister/Brother, Aunt/Uncle, Mother/Father, Grandma/Grandpa, and others may even say they identify themselves as what their career title is.
If you are unsure of who you are I would suggest you go back to your roots and see who your creator is. We would say we are a child of God or that our identity is in Christ wouldn't we?
As I was looking at various Bible verses to describe who I am, I realized there are numerous reminders that say exactly who we are, here's just a few! I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), I am forgiven (Colossians 3:13), I am redeemed (1 Peter 1:18-19), I am blessed (Philippians 4:19), I am loved beyond measure (John 3:16) or that I am simply never alone (John 16:32). As I read the list above I find comfort in knowing that God is my provider and protector (2 Thessalonians 3:3).
There are so many great verses what would you add to this?
Galatians 3:26-27
You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
When and if you ever find yourself struggling to see your worth I would highly recommend diving into some of the Bible verses listed above because you will quickly be reminded of just how deeply loved you are (even when you feel unloved) and that your current surroundings do not determine your worth or value. God can change your situation at anytime, but we have to faith in Him and trust his timing!
When we begin relying on God for our strength we will find a new sense of determination to keep pushing forward. Just as Galatians 6:9 says "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Romans 5:3-5 is another great reminder! "Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
What comes to mind when you read Galatians 6:9? Does it produce a desire to keep going?
When I found myself struggling often times I would visualize a curtain and if I could just peak around the curtain I would realize I am almost there, the struggle is almost over. This visual helped me to stay focused and not become overwhelmed by my circumstances. I would encourage you to create a visual for yourself that will help you stay focused as well. Because you ARE strong and you ARE capable of persevering, we just have to remember to ask for God's help!
Jeremiah 17: 7
But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.
