What Does Your Heart Reveal?
Updated: Jan 25, 2023
WOW! This is a loaded question don't you think?
What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you read this question? Does your heart reveal the fruit of the Spirit?
Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
So often God has shown me this Bible verse and than asked me this question. Ouch!! Is usually my first thought because this question humbles me. When God reveals what is in my heart it reminds me that I need to readjust my focus. I realize that I am getting caught up in all the distractions and those thoughts are taking me off course. I find myself wanting to explain or defend myself against the distractions. Have you ever felt this way before?
God is always telling me to let go of any negative thoughts and to stay focused on his goal. I do not need to defend myself because he is my defender. When I feel I need to defend myself God reminds me that I have forgotten to put my blinders on or that I have I forgotten to put on the armor of God as the Bible reminds us to do.
Ephesians 6:10-11, 14-15
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. vs 14-15 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
Have you ever watched a horse race or a horse that pulls a wagon? They put horse blinders on them in order to keep the horse focused on what is in front of it. When the horse cannot see in it's peripheral vision, it prevents the horse from becoming distracted or scared.
Have you put your blinders on this morning? If not, I encourage you to do so!
When we want to control a horse we make sure the bit which is part of the bridle is placed in the horses mouth. This small piece of equipment helps you control the horse when you are riding it. Friends we need to allow God to be our bit, not only so he can control our tongues but direct us to where he wants us to go!
Psalm 141:1-4
O Lord, I call to you; come quickly to me. Hear my voice when I call to you. May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice. Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips. Let not my heart be drawn to what is evil, to take part in wicked deeds with men who are evildoers; let me not eat of their delicacies.
Friends, we need to take inventory of our hearts and pay attention to what they are revealing and remember to adjust accordingly!
