We Are Guided by the Holy Spirit
Updated: Jan 24, 2023
If you were asked to explain the Holy Spirit, how would you define Him in your own words?
It may seem complicated at first, but as you begin to read about Him in the Scriptures below, I pray you gain clarity about His purpose in your life. He makes it possible for us to live our lives for Christ as we learn to surrender completely to Him. So, the question is how do we really know if we have received Him? Acts 2:38 says "Repent, Peter said to them, and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
Who is the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit is the third person in the Trinity, which is known as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Trinity means one God in three persons. The Holy Spirit bears witness of the Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
John 14:26 HCSB
"But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit - the Father will send Him in My name - will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you."
Attributes of the Holy Spirit:
He is our Comforter, Helper, Teacher, Trusted Companion who guides us in our decisions and protects us from physical and spiritual danger. (John 14:26)
He convicts us of our sin (John 16:7-8)
He dwells within us (1 Corinthians 3:16)
He is our source of wisdom revelation, and power (1 Corinthians 2:10-11; Acts 1:8)
Guides us to all truth and what is to come (John 16:13-15)
Gives Spiritual Gifts to believers (1 Corinthians 12:7-11)
He is the seal in the lives of believers (Ephesians 1:13)
Helps us in our weakness and intercedes for us, grants us eternal life (Romans 8:10-11)
Enables the Fruit of the Spirit in our lives (Galatians 5:22-25)
Romans 8:26-27 HCSB
"In the same way the Spirit also joins to help in our weakness, because we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with unspoken groanings. And He who searches the hearts knows the Spirit's mindset, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God."
Once we accept Christ, the Holy Spirit comes to abide (or dwell) within our hearts and helps us grow closer to God. The Holy Spirit is all-powerful and present everywhere.
He takes us deeper into God’s truth as we walk this journey with Him through life. There is not a person anywhere who can be a Christian without the Holy Spirit. I hope you will take time to get to know Him better and begin listening for and recognizing His voice.
As you learn to obey His voice, you will see Him do amazing things in and through your life!
John 16:13 HCSB
"When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak whatever He hears. He will also declare to you what is to come."
2 Corinthians 13:13 HCSB
"The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you."
