The Staple

Updated: Jan 25, 2023

Does God speaks directly to you?

Even with a tiny staple God showed me instantaneously that all things are possible with Him, no matter what I lack physically, emotionally or spiritually.

Luke 1:37

For nothing is impossible with God.

The book of Luke talks about the angel speaking to the virgin Mary and telling her she would give birth to the Son of God. These passages remind us that NOTHING is impossible for God. So we need to ask ourselves: why is it that we doubt the one who created the heavens and the earth? Why do we have such little faith in Him, even after knowing all that He is capable of doing?

Romans 5:8

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:

While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

The other morning after I got out of the shower, I went to grab my glasses and hearing aids off the cabinet and underneath the window I noticed something shiny on the floor. For those of you that may not know me, I am deaf without my hearing aids and I cannot see clearly without my glasses. But in that moment of glancing down, I knew there was something there. Before putting on my glasses, I knelt down and started rubbing my hand across the carpet and that is when I realized it was a staple caught in the carpet.

After I pulled the stable out of the carpet, I instantly felt God say to me "even though you cannot physically see, I will help you see what you need to see" and I just knew in my heart that God was showing me despite my physical disabilities or shortcomings as a Christian, He will guide me if I trust His promptings.

As I stood there in awe, in that moment looking at the tiny staple in my hand, I knew without a doubt God was giving me another lesson of surrender and trust all wrapped into one. So I thanked Him for not letting us step on it, and than I thanked Him for the lesson.

I learned it's not about me relying on my own strength, nor my hearing aids or glasses. It is about me solely & completely surrendering my life to Him in each and every moment of my day. It's about me giving up control and relying on Him literally for EVERYTHING, even the tiniest things such as a staple. It's the "knowing" something is there, just like I knew God prompted me in that moment.

Zephaniah 3:17

The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.

When I trust what God puts on my heart and follow where He leads, I know He will provide the wisdom I need to speak (James 1:5) or the vision to see what HE needs me to see. But in order for that to happen, I must surrender and trust Him wholeheartedly.

Jeremiah 33:1-3

While Jeremiah was still confined in the courtyard of the guard, the word of the Lord came to him a second time; This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it - the Lord is his name; Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.

This lesson also reminded that God is my staple. He is the one who holds me together like that tiny staple holds two sheets of paper together.

Ask yourself the following questions:

Where in my life am I not trusting God?

Where in my life am I not following His prompting or where in my life am I resisting what He is putting on my heart?

Then ask yourself why. Why are you resisting? Why do you not trust Him? These questions can help you get to the root cause of your lack of faith in Him.

Friends, allow God to be your staple. Don't think you have to hold it together or be strong all the time, God knows exactly what you are thinking and feeling, there is nothing we can hide. He knows your fears and worries, so why not turn those over to Him when they arise? Allow God to be your strength and recognize it when He gives it to you.

Acknowledge His strength and praise Him for it. When you are NOT feeling strong, thank God that He is strong FOR you. When you begin to worry, take a deep breath and immediately thank God for taking the worry from you and trust that He will. We cannot hold on to our worries even for a moment, it takes total surrender on our part before God can take it from us.

1 Peter 5:7

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Remember to take your anger, hurts, and frustrations to Him, and don't forget to thank Him in the midst of it either. Allow Him to speak to you in those moments. Thank Him for guiding you and protecting you in the process.

Our grateful hearts allow us to focus on all the impossible things God can do for us.

1 Thessalonians 5:8-9

But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Thessalonians 5:19 Do not put out the Spirit's fire.

Friends, allow God access to your heart, allow Him to speak to you and to guide you. And most importantly, allow Him to be the staple that holds you together.
