The Power of Showers
Updated: Jan 24, 2023
What comes to mind when you think of showers? Perhaps meteor, rain, snow shower? Or maybe a baby shower even comes to mind if you're in that season of life.
When you think of a rain shower, think of the power the rain has; it has the ability to bring growth to plants, trees, fields, and water for wildlife to drink. When we think of a snow shower, we quickly realize it has the ability to bring difficult challenges, especially when you are trying to drive in it. But if you are sitting in a warm house, a snow shower has the ability to bring tranquility and peace, what a contrast isn't it?
Psalm 72:6 NIV
He will be like rain falling on a mown field, like showers watering the earth.
There are many different types of showers, but today I want to focus on how God showers us with His love. Like a hot shower has the ability to soothe your body, God's love has the ability to soothe your soul.
Every morning when I get in the shower, I immediately thank God for having the hot shower and for the fact that I have indoor plumbing. Seriously, I'm very grateful. As the water surrounded me this morning, I began to think of God pouring His love on me in the same way that showerhead was doing. His love envelopes you, it's pure, it's cleansing and refreshing just like a hot shower.
Ezekiel 34:26-27 NIV
I will bless them and the places surrounding my hill. I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing. The trees of the field will yield their fruit and the ground will yield it's crops; the people will be secure in their land. They will know that I am the Lord, when I break the bars of their yoke and rescue them from the hands of those who enslaved them.
A lot of people say when they are in a shower that is when ideas come to them, that is when they think more clearly. How is it that a hot shower has the power to bring such clarity? Is it because it's the one place where you are not distracted by the outside world? Wouldn't it be nice to have more times like this? Not that we need to take an all-day shower, but we need to ask ourselves how we can we stay in that same frame of mind, perhaps it means we need to become more intentional with spending time alone with God, so He's given the opportunity to pour His love, His wisdom, His compassion on us just like a shower.
Friends, God is the one Person who understands what you are going through. He knows your deepest thoughts and struggles, today I want to encourage you to go to Him in prayer and ask Him to strengthen you. If you're not comfortable with praying, know that it's not about saying fancy or big words, it's just like having a conversation with your best friend. Just talk to Him, trust me, He's eagerly waiting and ready to listen.
Allow God to rain blessings on you as you become intentional with spending time alone with Him.
