The Power Of Our Thoughts

How often do you take inventory of your thoughts? Do you find yourself reacting to situations based on your thoughts or are you able to step back & pause before you react? If you are able to pause I commend you, because that is a difficult, yet remarkable achievement!
Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Often times our defensive thoughts & emotions get the best of us, we react impulsively, which leaves us feeling frustrated when we realize we should have responded differently. I'd like to encourage you to read a book called "As A Man Thinketh" by James Allen, a friend referred this book to me, it's only 34 pages & cost $4.
It's one of those books we should read yearly or more frequently if needed. It reminds us to be mindful of our thoughts & the impact they have on our daily lives. "By the right choice and true application of thought, man ascends to the Divine Perfection; by the abuse and wrong application of thought, he descends below the level of the beast."
I'd like to share a few more lines from the book in hopes they speak to each of us. "A noble and Godlike character is not a thing of favor or chance, but is the natural result of continued effort in right thinking, the effect of long-cherished association with Godlike thoughts."
Colossians 3:2
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
It's critical for us to pause & not allow our thoughts, emotions & ego to control how we react to situations. I love what the book says about wisdom. "Calmness of the mind is one of the beautiful jewels of wisdom. It is the result of long and patient effort in self-control."
Today I encourage each of us to practice self-control & become mindful of what we think about. When negative thoughts arise, I challenge you to change your perspective & lean on Gods Word for encouragement.
Philippians 4:8-9 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me - put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
