Texas Road Trip!

Updated: Jan 25, 2023

Texas is a BIG state with lots of great towns to explore. I've had the pleasure of visiting Texas several times over the years, but today I'm focusing on just one of those road trips!

Magnolia - Silos Bakery

My friend Lisa & I drove from Dallas area down to Waco which is about 1 1/2 hrs south. Waco is such a fun town, I had no idea there was so much to do there! You could easily spend 3-4 days in this town. We enjoyed Magnolia Market & Silos Bakery which is definitely worth the trip! By the way, these cupcakes were delicious! The Magnolia Table was not open yet so you know what that means....another road trip to Waco! Woohoo!!

Cattle herd near Suspension Bridge - Waco

Waco Mammoth Natl Monument was unique & fascinating, I would recommend visiting the site! Dr. Pepper Museum was fun to explore, we saw how they made pop or "soda" back in the day. We enjoyed seeing the cattle herd statues near the Waco Suspension Bridge.

If you are a history buff there are lots of great museums to visit along the way! We stopped in West TX, visited the History of West Museum the lady working there was one of the nurses that helped at the fertilizer plant when it exploded in 2013, her testimony was emotional & moving, very sweet lady. West has antique stores & delicious bakeries! We tried Kolaches at the Little Czech Bakery in West, those were delish!

Another highlight was visiting the Forth Worth Stockyards. If you are looking for a Texan experience THIS IS IT. I highly recommend being there for the cattle drive, it happens twice a day! They close down the streets and cowboys herd the longhorns through town, it's a fun & unique experience! They have great restaurants & hotels nearby, in fact the Stockyard Hotel is where the outlaws Bonnie & Clyde stayed (bank robbers). We enjoyed lunch at Riscky's BBQ before we explored the Fort Worth Stockyard Museum at the Live Stock Exchange. Dallas/Ft Worth area has a lot to offer, I would recommend a long weekend as we were not able to see & do it all.

We also visited the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza in Dallas which it's located on the sixth floor of the Dallas County Administration Building in downtown Dallas. It overlooks Dealey Plaza at the intersection of Elm and Houston Streets. The museum examines the life, times, death, and legacy of President John F. Kennedy and is located at the very spot from which Lee Harvey Oswald shot and killed the President on Nov 22, 1963.

There is definitely a lot to see & do in the area, unfortunately I ran out of time. Looking forward to heading back to Texas to explore more of its history & unique towns! I hope you are able to explore the beautiful state of Texas in the near future as well!

My next Texas road trip will cover Austin and San Antonio!

What is your favorite destination in Texas & why?
