Self Reflection
Updated: Jan 25, 2023
Self reflection is imperative for our spiritual growth and for us to see our lives as they are, not as we wish they were. Too often we get comfortable and fail to see what needs improving, we prefer to coast along without any distractions or hardships, sound familiar?
The question of the day is how do we grow spiritually mature without trials? It's a simple answer really, we don't.
We can be assured God will give us the strength we need though! Self reflection reminds us that there is always room for improvement, well if we are honest with ourselves there is...
John 12:46 I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.
What do we gain from self reflection?
A humble spirit, wisdom, compassion, empathy, patience, understanding. Everyone has a story, there isn't a single soul that is blemish free and when we embrace each others flaws without judgment it allows us to grow. Friends there is no such thing as a perfect human (except Jesus) so we can toss that out the window, but I would encourage each of us to strive to become the best version of ourselves.
I love how Oprah calls Earth our life school we are here to learn valuable lessons about ourselves & others. Every day look for the lessons and make sure you are passing the test!
2 Corinthians 13:5-9 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you - unless, of course, you fail the test? And I trust that you will discover that we have not failed the test. Now we pray to God that you will not do anything wrong. Not that people will see that we have stood the test but that you will do what is right even though we may seem to have failed. For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth. We are glad whenever we are weak but you are strong; and our prayer is for your perfection.
Let's learn to accept and embrace our flaws and love ourselves for being imperfect people. When you ask God to step in and help he will. Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Just like a diamond, we cannot become beautiful ourselves until we are put under pressure. Allow yourself to be transformed through your time of reflection.
Philippians 4:13 I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
