Sacred Tears
Updated: Jan 25, 2023
When we lose someone close to us our tears become sacred as we know the depth of love that each drop holds.
When your child died did you feel like your tears would never end? As if they were a faucet that you couldn't turn off? Some people become frustrated by their tears because they are tired crying all the time, is this you? Do you want to move beyond the tears, but find it difficult to do so? Can I encourage you to be gentle & patient with yourself?
There is no magic timeline to when the tears will end as it is different and unique for everyone so don't compare yourself with others as this can bring more frustration. The best gift we can give ourselves is to allow the tears to flow because whether we realize it or not they are healing our soul, but healing takes time so be patient with the process and your grief journey.
Overtime your tears will lessen, they will still come sporadically especially when you reflect on your child's life, this is normal. Even after 20+ years I can tell you my tears are still just as sacred as they day my son died. But my tears have evolved, they are less intense and less frequent, at times they are even comforting as they bring me closer to him.
Revelation 21:4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.
Honor your tears, give yourself permission to shed them. Remember, it's okay not to be okay, no matter how much time has passed. Don't apologize for your tears, it's natural to have emotions so don't minimize them just release them.
Psalm 34:15 The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry.
Bereavement is the sharpest challenge to our trust in God; if faith can overcome this, there is no mountain which it cannot remove. Dean Inge How true this statement is, bereavement is the sharpest challenge I have ever faced. Once you realize you can overcome your grief and nothing will compare to the depth of this pain you realize you can overcome anything. The good news is we can move beyond this pain and find joy again, we just have to look for the rainbows in the clouds!
Don't ever discount the wonder of your tears. They can be healing waters and a stream of joy. Sometimes they are the best words the heart can speak. Wm Paul Young
