Relinquish Control
Updated: Jan 25, 2023
Wow, this jumped out at me this morning. How many of us need to relinquish control? I would bet everyone of us would raise our hands. Giving up control goes against our human nature, yet that is exactly what God is asking us to do each and every day!
Ephesians 1:17-19 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength.
Our challenge is to ask God to help you relinquish control of your life and your desires. Ask for his wisdom to know what his plan is and to follow it even when we don't understand it.
At times this will be the most difficult thing for us to do, especially when our desires are not aligned with His.
But if we remember God's ways are better than ours, it helps us to move beyond our own limited thoughts & selfish desires.
Proverbs 16:9 In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.
When life seems uncertain we need to repeat Hebrews 13:6 So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?"
Relinquishing control requires humility, faith and trust in God. It's giving him 100% control of our lives just as Jesus asked his disciples to do in Matthew 16:24-25 Then Jesus said to his disciples, If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.
What will you relinquish today?
