Now What?
Updated: Jan 25, 2023
How many of you find yourself asking this question? Okay if we are honest how many of you ask it multiple times a day? I think all of us have said "Now what" at one time or another.
There are lots of different scenarios which lead us to say "Now what am I going to do?" Whether you just graduated from High School, or got lost while traveling and couldn't find your way back because your GPS wasn't working or perhaps you had a plumbing issue in your house and you had no idea how to fix it. Have you ever started baking only to realize you didn't have all the ingredients & you found yourself saying "great, now what am I going to do?" I would say a frustrated yes to the last one as that has certainly happened to me a time or two how about you?
Philippians 1:9-10 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ.
Have you ever questioned where God is leading you?
At times I have felt as if I knew where God was leading me and yet other times I found myself saying "now what" as I was unsure of what the next step was supposed to be.
Give an example of a time when you thought "Now what".
John 13:7 Jesus replied, "You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand."
Discernment is something we need to ask God for in order for us to be able to discern what the next step is. I love how Solomon asked God for this in 1 Kings 3:7-10 "Now, O Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours? The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. vs 11-12 So God said to him, "Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, no will there ever be.
What a great example Solomon was for each of us! Our challenge is to become like Solomon and ask God for a discerning heart!
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
