Music Is Good For The Soul
Updated: Jan 25, 2023
Music is powerful, it has the ability to heal hearts, repair brain damage and return lost memories. Did you know that contemporary research suggests music can play a role in patients overcoming strokes, brain injury and even Alzheimer’s? It has the ability to create bonds and draw people together much like our connection with God when we praise him in song.
Yesterday I talked about the joyous moments and how they can transport us back to a time in our lives and I love how music has the ability to do the same!
Ephesians 5:19-20 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
What are the songs that remind you of those defining moments in your life? I hope you'll share why!
You know that favorite song you like to hear while you're driving down the highway, your first love, college days?
For me I have several that jump out at me. Against All Odds reminds me of my best friend Kathy from high school, Sara by Jefferson Starship reminds me of when the space shuttle exploded in 1986, Bee Gees remind me of dancing with Nathan in our living room. Working as a Sweeperette at Cedar Point I always enjoyed listening to guests record the song Wing Beneath My Wings when I was in the front of the park. The Beach Boys Kokomo song reminds me of working on the Calypso ride at Cedar Point. Silent Night reminds me of 11pm Christmas Eve candlelight services we attended with my dad or if I hear John Denver songs or the How Great Thou Art hymn I'm reminded of him as well. Even after all these years these songs and many others instantly transport me back and I remember the emotions or the fun times we were having. How about you?
Psalm 104:33
I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
Our challenge today is to turn up the music and dance! Let's give praise to God for this beautiful day, for the gift of music and the joy it brings to each of us!
