Living A Life Of Integrity
Updated: Jan 25, 2023
When you hear the word integrity what comes to mind? Honesty, stability, strength, honor? Do you know of someone who lives their life with strong moral principles? If so, who would you name?
Proverbs 21:3 To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.
Have you ever sacrificed your values in order to be accepted by others or perhaps you knew someone in school who did so they could to fit in? I will admit, when I was younger it bothered me if I knew someone didn't like me, but when you mature you realize not everyone is going to like us or agree with us and that is okay. Because in the end it's not about what others think, what matters most is what God thinks of us and whether we are living a life that is pleasing to him.
Our society puts so much emphasis on our appearances, fashion, money, materialistic things. Some people are going in debt trying to keep up with their friends and neighbors by having the bigger house or latest technology etc. they have forgotten what is really important in life. This shelter in place is a great opportunity for each of us to take a closer look at our own lives and determine what are we putting our emphasis on?
Proverbs 19:1 Better a poor man whose walk is blameless than a fool whose lips are perverse.
Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with having nice things, but we need to be careful that our focus is not on obtaining material things for the wrong reasons. We need to make sure they do not become more important than God.
What I have found is the closer I walk with God the more content I am with what I have. Do I still want nice things? Yes of course, I would be lying if I said no, but I know what I have now is enough as I know I am blessed to live where I do and to be surrounded by so much beauty.
Lately I have felt as if God is refining me and helping me to put more emphasis on him. Our challenge is to reflect on our own lives and see where God is refining each of us and ensuring we are making changes that will allow us to live a life of integrity.
Proverbs 10:9
The man of integrity walks securely, but he who takes crooked paths will be found out.
