How Precious Is Your Soul
Have you ever really thought about just how precious your soul is? Think about it for a moment, you have two forces fighting for it. Jesus and the devil, the good news is we know who always wins, Jesus!
The devil is constantly placing self-doubt and fears in our minds, telling us that we are not worthy of God's love, His goodness, or His forgiveness because of our sins. And yet Jesus tells us a different story, Jesus says our sins are forgiven and we are redeemed by His blood.
Psalm 107:2 NIV
"Let the redeemed of the Lord say this - those he redeemed from the hand of the foe."
John 10:10-11 NIV
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep."
Ways to help us fight against the devil's schemes:
Put on the Armor of God daily (Ephesians 6:10-18)
Use God's Word against every evil thought, word, or deed (2 Corinthians 10:3-5; James 4:7)
Psalm 107:6 says,
"Then they cried out to the lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress."
This verse above reminds me of the movie we watched last night, "After Death" by Angel Studios, which was about people having near death experiences. To me, this movie was encouraging on so many levels because hearing their testimony and shared experiences explained how they all felt alive here on earth, but when they crossed over, they felt even more alive on the other side and how they were enveloped in love, what a great image to have! Now there were some people who shared that they were being taken to hell, in fact one guy shared that he was going at a high speed and when he felt he should not be going there his speed sped up and he eventually called out for Jesus to help him, and he did. That image of Jesus reaching down and saving this young man was so inspiring because Jesus says He will never give up on us (Hebrews 13:5), God's Word gives me hope!
1 John 1:9 NIV
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
I have been reading Priscilla Shirer's book "The Resolution for Women" (I highly recommend it) the chapter on "Authentically Me" was a great reminder that we need to celebrate our uniqueness instead of running from it. She says we are not here by accident and that we are extraordinarily significant! We ARE precious souls in the eyes of our Heavenly Father.
Priscilla's book also says, "The life you're moving into has far too much God-given potential for you to enter it still clinging to old habits, limitations, attitudes, and assumptions. Dig deep and lean in to the truth - the truth of who you are and what He's created you to offer to the world - and then orbit your life around that steadfast knowledge."
Friends, Jesus knew how precious your soul was, so much so that He was willing to die a gruesome death for it. This is a powerful reminder, and it should give us a renewed sense of hope.
Jeremiah 1:5 NIV
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."
Jeremiah 1:5, reminds us that God knew us BEFORE we were born! Friends, we can be confident in His abilities despite all of our shortcomings (Luke 1:37). Moses and King David are great reminders of this, they both made numerous mistakes and yet God used them both in mighty ways! He can use us too...are you willing to accept His invitation?
Psalms 139:14-16 NIV
"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful..."
I love this reminder of Jeremiah's conversation with God because it sounds just like us, doesn't it? We're always giving excuses as to why we can't follow His will for our lives. Jeremiah 1:6-8 NIV "Ah, Sovereign Lord," I said, I do not know how to speak; I am only a child." But the Lord said to me, "Do not say, 'I am only a child.' You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you," declares the Lord.
Let's take the Lord's words to heart, because we should never be afraid to step out of our comfort zones and follow His will for our lives, He tells us not to be afraid because He will be with us and rescue us.
I pray you will be filled with courage, strength, confidence, and a renewed faith in God as you meditate on His Scriptures:
Psalm 91 is such a great chapter, but I especially like vs 11-12 "For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone."
Jude 1:9
Matthew 4; 10:28-29, 32
1 Peter 5:8
1 Thessalonians 5:22
1 Corinthians 13:6, 15:57-58
2 Timothy 4:18
2 Thessalonians 3:3 NIV
"But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one."
