God Is Speaking, Are You Listening?

Updated: Jan 25, 2023

The Holy Spirit's voice is recognizable and unique to each of us.

How do you hear from God? I hope you will share examples because I love hearing how God is working in and through others. For me, His voice is an internal audible voice and at times it speaks loudly to me, perhaps that's because He knows I'm hearing impaired lol :) who knows. But in all seriousness, I do know when He is trying to get my attention. Especially, when I receive two different confirmations regarding the same subject or situation. When I have that, I know I better be paying attention!

Romans 8:26-27

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.

Are you someone who thinks God is not speaking to you? If so, I challenge you to think about your intuition, because that is a gift from God and a way that God speaks to you. Jesus used His intuition when someone touched his clothing, and by following his instincts he found the lady who touched him and He healed her sickness. Trust your gut instincts, because that IS God guiding you! I recommend reading about this lady's faith in Mark 5:25-34.

When we are not hearing from God we need to take inventory of our thoughts, hearts, and our own desires because that can explain why you may feel as if you are not hearing from God. When we are focused on justifying our own frustrations or hurts with our negative attitudes than we are not allowing room for God to speak to our hearts.

So how do we change our negative thoughts? We take them to the Lord in prayer.

Trust me, not always easy, but when I began taking all of my frustrations to God, each time He thanked me for taking them to Him, but then He immediately asked me to set those aside and asked me to look at my own heart and my own shortcomings. OUCH! Right?! Yes, VERY humbling process but trust me when I say it works. Now I'm willing to look at my own flaws and am able to see my imperfections instead of focusing on everyone else's. Do I still get frustrated? Absolutely, but the minute I give it to God He humbles me, and the more you do it, the less you will dwell on others flaws. Thank God we are loved unconditionally, amen friends?

Psalm 36:1-4

An oracle is within my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked. There is no fear of God before his eyes. For in his own eyes he flatters himself too much to detect or hate his sin. The words of his mouth are wicked and deceitful; he has ceased to be wise and to do good. Even on his bed he plots evil; he commits himself to a sinful course and does not reject what is wrong.

Let's pay attention to how we are speaking about others, like our mothers said, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." How true that statement is! Let's take inventory of our words and ask for God's forgiveness when we fail to follow His example of loving others as He loves us.

Psalm 36:5-7

Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep. O Lord, you preserve both man and beast. How priceless is your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings.

Friends, God is speaking to us ALL the time, whether you believe that or not. If you are not walking closely with the Lord I want to challenge you to begin because the Holy Spirit knows your hearts and minds and He will speak in a way that will get your attention.

Create quiet time and allow yourself to hear His voice!
