God Encounters
Updated: Jan 25, 2023
If you had to guess, how many God encounters do you have on a weekly basis? Do you keep track of them? If not, I really want to encourage you to write them down because these will become Spiritual Markers for you! Spiritual markers are those moments when God shows us, He is working in our lives.
First, let's define what a God encounter is, the Bible.com (YouVersion app) definition is: The word 'encounter' simply means to ‘run into’ and running into God is the best thing that can happen to us. We need an encounter because only an encounter with God can transform us and give us purpose and direction like no other." The dictionary says an encounter is: (noun) an unexpected or casual meeting with someone or something and (verb) unexpectedly experience or be faced with...
For me, it means those simple moments when God says, "I'm here". A great example of this is when I was cleaning this week. I literally felt depleted with no energy, and I mentioned to my husband that the devil was winning because I had no desire to clean. I had a wipe container that I was putting the lid back on and do you know I saw something I've never noticed before....it was a cross on the lid (it's the part that holds the wipe in place). I was instantly reminded that God will strengthen me (Isaiah 41:10) and the weariness left me, and I felt as if I had a new spring in my step, simply from noticing the cross on the lid.
Revelations 3:20
"Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me."
I believe God is always around, showing us that He is there with us, and He will strengthen us to do whatever task we are being called to do.
Too often, we are looking for some grand experience and God is consistently showing us He is in the "small" stuff too! These encounters are an ongoing leading of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives.
This week our challenge is to look for God in every day. Start paying attention to those subtle reminders that He is with you!
1 Peter 5:7 NIV
