Following God Wholeheartedly
Updated: Jan 25, 2023
What is the cost of being a follower of Christ? Luke 14:33 tells us it will cost us everything! vs33 "In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple." Giving up everything seems overwhelming to hear, but I encourage you to focus on what we gain from becoming a disciple of Jesus. What we give up here on earth is temporary but eternity is forever so keep the right perspective when God is asking you to pick up your cross and follow him. Eternity with God is worth the sacrifices he's asking us to make here!
Numbers 14:20-24 The Lord replied, " have forgiven them, as you asked. Nevertheless, as surely as I live and as surely as the glory of the Lord fills the whole earth, not one of the men who saw my glory and the miraculous signs I performed in Egypt and in the desert but who disobeyed me and tested me ten times - not one of them will ever see the land I promised on oath to their forefathers. No one who has treated me with contempt will ever see it. But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it.
We would be wise to follow Caleb's example in that he followed God wholeheartedly. He trusted God and knew He would help them take hold of the promise land. Numbers 13:30 Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, "We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it." Caleb had faith in God and we should too!
Luke 9:24-25 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self?
I pray that God will strengthen our faith in him and guide us in his ways so that we will turn away from worldly desires.
Will you pick up your cross and follow him?
Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me."
