Faith Supersedes Fear

Updated: Jan 25, 2023

If fear was not even a factor, what would you change about your life today?

At some point in our lives, we have all had to face our fears and have been successful at overcoming them. Today's message is a reminder that our faith should supersede our fears!

Matthew 21:21-22

Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."

So, the real question to ask ourselves is, do we believe this? Because believing goes hand in hand with our faith just as Matthew 21 mentions above.

Some may ask, how do I become faithful? Romans 10:17 tells us "Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ." which means it's imperative that we are reading and hearing God's Word because our faith grows as we begin trusting and believing in God's truth. Knowing we cannot accomplish anything without our faith in Christ, who makes it all possible.

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

Hebrews 11:6

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

The challenge is to determine which side of the coin you are on, ask yourself a series of questions, such as:
  • Do I tend to be more cautious and/or fearful? If so, determine why that is. What does your fear stem from?

  • Think about one step you can take to overcome this fear, what would it be?

  • Are you someone who pushes through your fears? If so, what is your secret? What allows you to persevere and push through them? I hope you'll share your thoughts!

2 Corinthians 5:7
We live by faith, not by sight.

Some people fear others witnessing them failing so they won't step out and try new things. But the BIble tells us in 2 Timothy 1:7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

Friends, it's important that we show our kids how to step out in faith and I would even say it's good for them to see us fail once in a while because it's an opportunity for us to teach them how to persevere!

James 1:2-4

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
