Conflict Resolutions

Updated: Jan 25, 2023

Conflicts are inevitable would you agree or disagree? It seems every relationship will deal with a conflict in one form or another, they may even be subtle differences. How many times have you heard "I never fight with my spouse"? Does this mean they have figured out how to resolve their conflicts peacefully? Yes, perhaps it does, it could also mean they are both good listeners and have a mutual respect and deep understanding of each others thoughts, likes, dislikes etc.

Whether our conflict is with our spouse, kids, family or coworkers our goal should always be a peaceful resolution, but in order to accomplish this we need to understand the meaning behind the conflict. How many times have we assumed something only to find out we were way of base? I have misjudged situations before, perhaps you have too.

Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.

Martin Luther King Jr was a great example of how conflicts can be resolved without violence and his quote is so true. "The time is always right to do what is right."

Amen!

Colossians 3:13

Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

Does this photo look familiar? How many times have you felt as if you were rowing the wrong direction? The best way to avoid conflicts is to have a clear understanding of where you are going, what the end result should be and what each persons goal is.

Romans 12:17-18

Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

Our challenge is to become better listeners, when you find yourself feeling like you are in a conflict, instead of becoming defensive ask the other person to explain their point of view. Try to gain a new perspective, often times we assume a situation is a certain way only to find out we were completely wrong.

Hebrews 12:14-15

Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.
