Check Your Shame At The Door
Updated: Jan 25, 2023
How many of us carry our shame around with us? How quickly we compare ourselves with others and assume their lives are so much better than our own. Yet if we only knew the "real story" we would quickly realize each and every one of us carries some form of shame around.
God wants us to check our shame at the door!
Now this means every time it arises, you need to mentally remind yourself you are standing at the doorway and God is asking you to leave it there. We are not supposed to pick it back up either, think about how much lighter we would feel if we could do this consistently.
Psalms 34:4-5 I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.
Friends regardless of our past mistakes each day is a new beginning to begin again. Allow yourself the grace to do just that.
The devil wants us to swim in our shame so that we will not move forward in life, but God is telling you to trust that you are already forgiven. When we repent of our sins God has already forgiven you. Once we realize this, it frees us from the bondage of shame.
We need to get busy living our best lives, allow every experience to guide us and teach us what not to do or what we need to do better next time.
Isaiah 50:7 Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore I have set my face like a flint, and I know I will not be put to shame.
Life is hard enough without adding to it, so our challenge is to check our shame at the door and thank God for removing it from us.
Romans 10:10-13 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame. For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile - the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
