Becoming A Virtuous Person

Is there someone in your life that comes to mind when you think of a person who is virtuous or has good character? Who would it be and why?
For me my dear friend Cheryl comes to mind. She is one of the wisest people I know, she is humble, patient, kindhearted, she operates with integrity and lives a life of service for others. She is just one of those people who always goes above & beyond for everyone and has such a generous & giving heart. I am truly blessed by her presence in my life and grateful for her friendship as I have learned so much from her!
2 Peter 1:5-8
For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Being virtuous is something we should all strive for. Is there a virtue you need to work on? For me it would be self control, even though I try my best I still fall short, can you relate?
Which virtues have you mastered?
Here's just a few that come to mind: Self control, moderation, orderliness, service, generosity, patience, courage, tolerance, respect, honesty, obedience, humility, gratitude, sincerity, truthfulness, having foresight, kindness, prayerfulness, wisdom, perseverance, forgiveness, modesty, loyalty, meekness, good counsel. I am sure you can think of others as well.
Proverbs 10:9 The man of integrity walks securely, but he who takes crooked paths will be found out.
This quote is a great reminder for us to be aware of how our thoughts, words and actions can impact our lives & those around us.
Our challenge is to pay attention to our thoughts and notice any negative patterns we may have. Once we recognize them we allow ourselves the opportunity to pause and choose one thought over another. By doing so we are building good character traits and creating good habits by consistently choosing to speak positively.
Philippians 4:8-9 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me - put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
