Are You Easily Distracted?

What do you consider to be the biggest distraction in your life right now?
As we all know, our world is FULL of distractions. We have commercials trying to convince us to buy the latest phone or technology, we're told we will be happy if we have a bigger house or the latest fashion, and if we take an extravagant vacations we will be content, but the truth is we won't be. These worldly things only leave us discontented and longing for more. True happiness is only found in our relationship with Christ, it has nothing to do with materialistic items.
Proverbs 4:23-27
Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. Put away perversity from your mouth; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you. Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm. Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.
When we quit chasing worldly things and begin making Jesus our number one priority, our lives will change for the better. We will become less anxious, less stressed, less worried and most importantly we will experience contentment. How many of us dream of being content?
Philippians 4:12-13
I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
Can you believe contentment is actually within our reach? It's true! All we have to do is focus on God, seek his wisdom and provision, be in communion with Him throughout our day, and contentment will begin to grow because we are focused on His will rather than our own.
Being distracted reminds me of Martha, she was always busy doing something.
Luke 10:38-42
How many of you would say you are like Martha? I hate to admit this, but I would have to raise my hand. At times I find myself busy taking care of multiple things at once and God has pointed out when this has prevented me from spending quality time with Him.
It's also the time when I begin to feel restless and anxious because the realization sets in that I have allowed distractions to absorb "His" time. Friends if you can relate, I encourage you to start paying attention to God's prompting. Once you recognize it, immediately take action to start changing that behavior.
How many of you wish you were more like Mary? I know I do, she was focused on Jesus and what he had to say. He was her number one priority. We should be just as eager as Mary to learn what the Bible has to teach us because it tells us exactly how to overcome our challenges and everything we struggle with. Pick a book in the Bible and get yourself in the habit of reading one chapter a day!
So how do we prevent ourselves from falling into the trap of being "busy" all the time? Colossians 3:2 gives us the exact answer we need. "Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things." If we just set our minds on things above, than we are able to stay focused on God's will for our lives and we are able to let go of the distractions around us.

I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord.
