A Conversation With God
Updated: Jan 25, 2023
Some of the best conversations I've had with God have been on my road trips. It seems that is when I receive clarity about my life and the next step God is asking me to take. A few years ago I had the pleasure of taking a 10 day trip alone. Yes you heard that right, ALONE!!! Have you ever done this? Do you enjoy traveling alone or do you prefer to be with others? I know this is different for everyone, for some this sounds amazing and for others not so much. For me, it was pure heaven! I loved every minute of it. Don't get me wrong, I love traveling with my family, but there were times when I could feel God's presence sitting in the passenger seat. In fact, at one point I even did a double take because I felt him so strongly, it was pretty awesome!!
Jeremiah 29:13
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
Where do you have your best conversations with God?
For me, my best conversations are on road trips or being in nature. When I took the 10 day solo trip I felt God's presence the entire journey through Death Valley to Hoover Dam where I saw 3 bighorn sheep alongside the road (mind you, I had just prayed that I would get to see one only I was blessed to see three of them), Lake Mead, Snow Canyon SP in St George UT, Zion NP where I saw his expansive beauty from atop Angels Landing that just took my breath away and than again hiking through The Narrows (the river that flows through the canyons) and back to San Jose where I saw Oprah for 2 days on her "Life You Want Weekend" tour which was a great ending to that trip.
Proverbs 3:23-26
Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble; when you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down your sleep will be sweet. Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being snared.
When I was working in Berkeley CA my commute was anywhere from an hour to hour and a half each way depending on traffic. I quickly began to appreciate that time alone in my car, in fact when I didn't have it I found myself missing it.
For me, that commute became my prayer time, it's where I began thanking God for everything I had in my life and for leading us to Benicia where we met some wonderful people who became like family to us!
When I crossed the bridge every morning that was where my prayers began, for those of you who know me, know that I love water and to be able to cross that bridge every morning was a great way to start my day. My commute also went along the bay where I saw the Golden Gate Bridge right before my exit.
Early on in my commute I had a gut feeling that this view would not be a permanent one for me so I was grateful for it. At times when I was frustrated with driving 10-15 mph I quickly reminded myself to appreciate the journey because one day I would miss that view. When I was going over the overpass near my exit I loved driving slow because it allowed me to look at the Golden Gate Bridge longer or to enjoy the city peaking out of the fog. The views were forever changing and I enjoyed it immensely!
Wherever your journey takes you I hope you will have a great conversation with God along the way!!
Hebrews 11:6
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
